When you're little, you don't have much control over what is going on in your life. Mommy and Daddy are the boss. You have to do what they tell you, and if you don't then you get in to big trouble!
But- It's so important to let kids have some control. The minis know that they are the boss of their bodies. They don't have to give you hugs or kisses if they don't want to. They don't have to wear that "pretty" outfit you bought them. Even if it hurts your feelings... (sorry grandma) and being a mini Mitchell means, you even get to pick what color your hair is, because why the hell not?
Life is full of things that we don't get to control, we have to follow rules, we have to do what grown-ups say. We have to listen to mom and clean up the front room even if it's just a bit messy, and we "so really wanna play with our barbies out here!"
I want my children to grow up, and know how to make choices for themselves. I've raised very independant minis. And I pride myself on the fact that my 3 year old can make Mac-and-cheese (with supervision) that my 6 year old can make a cheese quesadilla if she wants a snack.
I let my children express themselves through their appearance. And this causes some issues for some people... but why? If my 5 year old wants blue hair, why can't he have blue hair? who are you to tell someone what they can and can't do to their own physical appearance?
Alice has been choosing what she wants to wear since she could dress herself, she was probably 18 months old. And when she wanted to wear her Elsa sweater under her pink short overalls with Santa leggings too- I let her do it. When she got her first hair cut and wanted "my hair short like Kitty's mommy!" I let her do it as well.
When she walked over to me the other night, and said "MOM!! lets out red and blue and pink and purple in my hair paleaseeeeee" I said okay Buggie! lets do it. (again sorry grandma) but it's her hair. It is her choice.

As a mom, one of the most important things I can do, is instill confidence into these mini humans, so they can carry that with them through out their entire lives. It is one of the most important things anyone can have. So self expression is so very important, having choices is so very important, being in control of yourself is so very important.
I try my hardest to let my minis be themselves, even if I disagree with their choices.
So, next time you see a mom- who's child is dressed "funny" or who's hair is bright purple, instead of judging that mama, think about how important it is to give our little humans the chance to express themselves, to find themselves, to build their own identity.
♡ I may or may not be talking about "just hair"
♡ This is something I am so passionate about
♡ What's something you wanted to do when you were little but weren't "allowed" to do??
